Just below Purple Peak on the Akaroa Harbour sky line is a tiny day hut with wondrous views of Harbour and up to the Seaward Kaikouras and across to the Southern Alps.

This hut can be reached by walking from Tree Crop Farm cross country up Purple Peak Track. This takes about an hour and walkers can continue on to Hinewai Reserve and its many walktracks or around the mountain via road and track back to Tree Crop Farm... a circular 2 hour route.

There is a walktrack map for this titled "Round the Mountain" and available at the Information Centre in
Akaroa along with all the other walktrack maps for the Akaroa area, the Round the Mountain walk is a great half day out, but, the problem is, for many, the hour uphill to begin is a bit much! THE SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND! Guests who pre book a time can be driven to the base of the saddle and all they have to do is a delightful 10 minutes walk gently uphill to the hut with sea views of Long Bay half the way and Akaroa Harbour the other half.

From there they follow the clearly marked track all the way downhill to Tree Crop Farm turnoff at the
Woodills Track stile...around a gentle hours ramble with the Akaroa Harbour in front of them all the way! The cost of the ride to the top? A decent bottle of chardonnay for your host!
